Plot: A wedding videographer chronicles her own journey to get engaged.
Review: Nina Davenport has a problem. She wants to get married but despite being in a relationship she can’t seem to get engaged. So she films herself as she tries to figure out if she should get married, why she would want to get married and whether this guy is “the guy” or just “a guy?”
It’s not a terrible documentary and has some great moments. The problem comes more from the way it is presented. Most of the time, Nina is also the camera man so we hardly ever see her face. Thus we never get a chance to get to know her and so we never feel any connection to her or the movie. It just seems like series of images and a narrator. So we don’t care if or when she gets married. The best parts are when we see her and the way she interacts to the situations, but there aren’t enough of those. I wish she had gotten at least a camera crew because she seems like she has a voice and something to say but without a face we have no one to look at it.
Trivia: Nina Davenport has another documentary coming out soon about her journey to become a single mother. Is that a spoiler?
