Plot: A science teacher becomes a MMA fighter to try and save the music program .
Review: Let me start by saying I am not a Kevin James fan. I have never been able to get through his films but as I love all fighting movies, I decided to watch this one. I was pleasantly surprised! It’s actually a funny, simple film for the whole family. James trades in his usual nice guy routine for a slacker teacher role and it fits him more I think. He seems more like someone who just let life slip by instead of a paul blart for example. When his best friend’s job is at risk, he decides to do whatever it takes to save it. Eventually this leads to him becoming an mma fighter. The plot is simple but I really liked that. This is more of a family film that I thought. It’s the good kind that doesn’t rely on ugliness or sadness to get it’s point across. The film keeps things light hearted and you find yourself enjoying yourself. There were still points that made me cringe and it is a very simple plot with no twists but what’s wrong with that? It makes it’s point and even the theme of doing what’s right is good. The fact that James does this for his friend and not himself makes it even better as films nowadays seem to be very selfish. I can’t believe how much I enjoyed this film. I hope this marks a turning point for James and he starts taking more risks. I say this if probably for fans of James, MMA or sports movies in general.
Trivia: Kevin James lost 70 lbs to prepare for the role and by the end he looks like a completely different person. It is amazing.
